SUCCESS STORIES FOR ASHA

Maria Sahana CP-155

I wish to say something about my life. Untill I was selectecd for ASHA Sponsorship programme. I never thought that I would finish my 10th standard. My house condition was such that my parents were in utter poverty. Rite from the time I was in 1st Standard, they were not able to pay the fees for my study. But God was so merciful on my family that he gave chance for me to be in ASHA Sponsorship Programme. My parents were struggling even to find a job and earn their livelihood. I was brilliant in academics. I used to study hard and get 1st rank in the class. From 2nd standard I started to join in all the activities and I used to win many prizes. Those days there was no mobile or camera to take photo of what all I did. I used to play Kho-Kho, Running Race etc. I used to join in co-curricular activities such as singing, dancing, acting, elocution, essay writing, rangoli, kolatum which is our culture and I was getting many prizes. My parents were very poor. They were working as coolie workers.

As the days passed, I began to know the difficult life of my parents that they were leading. I came to know that a donar was suporting me to do my studies through ASHA Children’s Sponsorship Programme. I took it as a challenge that I should in return must be grateful to those who are helping me for my studies by studying hard and get good marks thus they will be happy and even my parents will be happy. When I was in 2nd standard I never realized that my parents are struggling in order to make me a good student and also good citizen of India. Gradually I realized that I should study well and come up in life. I was too young when they were bringing me to the ASHA camp. The elders used to dance, enact skits and sing. I realised that the talents in these children is slowly beginning to sprout and bear much fruit, this ASHA has helped us to develop our talents in all the ways and come up in life. During holidays I use to help my mother at home in cooking food, sweeping, washing and so on. Even I used to help my father in the field, watering the garden, putting manure to the plants. This is how my parents and myself came forward in life.
In school my performance was so good that my teachers made me a leader and I use to teach my friends who are dull in studies, I use to coach them. All the teachers were liking me and they were telling me that I was the best student which gave me more encouragement in my life. When I was in 4th standard I never forget the English teacher Sharan Master who taught me new words and alphabets. When I came to 5th standard Sr. Irine was English teacher, when I was in 6th standard Maria Teacher was my English teacher. She used to force me to speak in English that made me very strong in English. When we came to 7th standard we had nice time to enjoy as it was composite school. We use to mingle with boys in dance, enact in skits and drama and so on. We use to have competitions with boys. More or less girls only use to get more prizes than boys. We assured our dear teachers that we will never forget our teachers. I came to high school there we had only masters we had no lady teachers like our mother. We use to get frightened to maths teacher Srinivas. He used to teach very well and our H.M. Dennison who was our Head Master. He was friendly, motherly and he was everything to all of us. We use to play throw ball and co-curricular activities. In our School we were divided into differnt groups/houses at the bigining of the year itself in order to develop competitive spirit among the students. All the activities done in house system each house had each colour and name. My group was red group. We use to get shield and parade every Friday. We use to have co-curricular activities like sports, Kho-Kho, Throw Ball, Kabbadi, and Drama every year. I use to be a house leader and Class Leader. In 8th standard I had written NMMS exam I got distinction in that. They gave me scholarship for studying. In 10th standard I became secretary of the school a great response fell on me, I use to train other students. This year we had 5th preparatory exam in all the subjects I got first place. I scored good marks even in final exam.

I had good marks 88%. But to leave the school I felt bad because it ment leaving my friends, teachers and the school which I studied. Now I have joined Jain International School, I have secured 3rd rank. Next time I will try to get first rank. This year all are new to me, new college, new friends, new teachers, and new environment. Though it is new to me, I can’t forget my old school, teachers, friends and so on. Always old is gold. Every year we use to receive Christmas gift such as Blanket, Chairs, Vessels, Wall Clock, Chudidhar, Kit Bags, Tiffen Boxes, Bed sheets etc. All these things we received because of ASHA Children’s Sponsorship and my parents have improved a lot in their life. I was able to achieve all these above mentioned in this letter because I joined in ASHA Children’s Sponsorship Programme. I have improved a lot I can say. Hat off to my Donars and ASHA Charitable Trust. I thank you for giving me a chance to improve in all the ways. I will never forget what ASHA Charitable Trust and the Donars have done to me. That’s all i end my life story.

Thank you
